タイからカナダへ国境なきワンズレスキューThe Dog rescuers without borders

命を救うネットワーク : トロント・ヒューマン・ソサエティー　

「美しい湖(水)」という意味をもつオンタリオ州には湖がおよそ25万箇所もあるそうで、ハドソン湾に接する自然豊かな州です。
ここカナダのオンタリオ州における動物たちの環境はタイにくらべ非常に良いとのことです。路上の野良犬はいないし、政府のシェルターにはそんなにたくさんの犬は収容されていないそうです。それでも高齢の犬や病気の犬は収容後まもなく安楽死させられてしまいます。（カナダには民間の慈善団体が運営する高齢の犬のためのサンクチュアリーやノーキル・シェルターもあります）
オンタリオ州の州都にあるトロントヒューマンソサエティー(THS)は動物保護団体として、約60匹の犬と200匹の猫を保護しています。
ドミニクさんはこの数年でタイからレスキューした35匹のうち、約20匹もの犬達をこの団体THSを通じて無事に里親をさがしました。
THSが彼に提供してきたサポートはドミニクさんのタイにおける犬のレスキュー活動にとって、非常に大きな支えであり、バンコクでの犬のレスキューが、カナダで実を結んだの影には、THS の支援があったからなのです。

このような国境を越えた活動の中で、在カナダのタイ王国大使館領事部から、トロントヒューマンソサエティーがタイの路上の犬達を受け入れ助けていることを評価いただき、心からのご寄付（＄1500）をいただきました。

Network to save life― The Toronto Humane Society 

 The Toronto Humane Society (THS) has about 60 dogs and about 200 cats. They are very supportive of my work in Thailand.
 I have brought About 20 dogs to them in the last few years!
 In ONTARIO, the animal situation is quite good. They are no stray dogs on the streets and not too many dogs in shelter　 but unfortunately, the city of Toronto does not usually keep older dogs, sick dogs or aggressive. These dogs are quickly　 euthanized by the city of Toronto.
　 I would like to sincerely thank the Royal Thai consulate in Toronto for making a kind donation to the  Toronto humane Society for helping the street dogs in Bangkok.　


カナダ オンタリオ州　動物保護法と保護団体　(Animal ACT and ORG in Ontario)

在タイ日本大使館より2014年10月3日、オタワ市在住の女性に対し動物虐待の罪で禁固10か月の実刑判決が言い渡されました。この判決は最近施行されたオンタリオ州動物保護法に基づき初めて下された実刑ケースとなります。
同女性は飼い犬を餓死させたことにより、禁固刑以外にも、生涯動物を飼うことも併せて禁止されました。正式にはオンタリオ州SPCA法（Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act）と呼ばれるこの法律は、2009年に改正され、改正前には売買目的で飼育されている犬猫だけを対象に適用されていましたが、現行の法律では、警察捜査犬なども含む動物全体に適用されます。

カナダのオンタリオにある保護団体 Toronto Humane Society(THS) と The Ontario SPCA (OSPCA) が知られています。残念ながらOSPCAでは2010年に生きた動物たちの皮膚糸状菌症（白癬／リングワーム）の蔓延に（人畜感染する、治療が1か月、薬剤が高額などの実情から350匹もの犬猫、うさぎなどを安楽死処分する事態が起きたのです。（参考http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2010/05/11/13907556.html)
リングワームはたとえ厄介であっても、治療可能であった皮膚病です。それにも関わらず、なぜ行政でなく、No-Killシェルターで保護されるべき動物が大量に処分されてしまったのか、人間側の都合も大きいと感じます。
どの動物保護団体にも様々な問題が起こると思いますがその対処には団体の保護精神が反映されるはず。ドミニクさんの活動拠点であるトロントヒューマンソサエティーTHSについての概要と保護活動について、紹介していただきました。

 ドミニクさんは、この10年間トロントヒューマンソサエティー（THS)でボランティアとして活動してきました。犬の散歩や問題のある犬のしつけ訓練、シェルターからソサエティーの保護施設への犬の移動、THS のイベント‘’Walk in the paws’’でのボランティアワークをしています。以下に、様々なイベントを開催し、地域の動物保護に貢献するTHSを紹介します。

THSの使命は「すべての動物の人道的取り扱いと保護を促進して、虐待と苦しみを防ぐ」ことです。
そして、設立当初 1887年から、この127年の間その通りに活動してきました。   　　
2013年に、THSは、2度目のチャンスが必要な4000匹以上の病気や怪我、または、捨てられた動物たちを保護してました。
不殺生の哲学を表明する― それは、あらゆるアドプション可能な動物たちに新しい家を見つけることを意味します。THSは近隣の地域社会における動物保護団体で、もし動物たちの世話に必要な環境や適切な世話の提供がされていないなら、その介助をします。

2013年、THSの扉をくぐった動物たちのうち1000匹以上は、そのような他の団体からTHS に移動し保護されたのです。 　　　　　　
毎年何千もの動物のTHS施設での保護から新しい家を見つるまでの提供に加え、ペットへの人道的取り扱いを促進して、シェルターへ送られる動物が年々より少なくなるような保護システムを確実に実現しています。

THSは地域社会に様々なサービスを提供しています。去勢避妊手術（ Spay/Neuter）とワクチンの接種サービスは、低コストの手術や病気予防と健康促進のオプションをクライアントに提供しています。  THS はトロント市で2つのペットフードバンクを管理してます。
また冬季に限り、温かな避難所としての一般家庭などに動物を委託するパートナープログラムもあります。 またTHS は 家庭でペットの問題行動を抱える個々のオーナーのための相談所、犬の躾訓練のクラスを開催しています。
THSは、他の州やアメリカ、その他の国々からの犬を受け入れています。彼らの使命と行動は‘トロント’の由来｢人の集まる場所｣の通り、遠くボーダーを超えて影響を与えています。
 ドミニクさんは彼らTHS のチームの一員であることを非常に誇りに思っています！

 I have been a volunteer for the Toronto Humane society for the last 10 years. My responsibility is to walk the dogs, and　 help the shelter in any way I can, whether it is helping to train the difficult dogs, help to find rescues and transport the dogs to other shelters or volunteering for the many activities such as ‘’Walk in the paws’’.

   The Toronto Humane Society s’  mission is to “Promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty　 and suffering”, and it has been doing so for the last 127 years – since its inception in 1887.

   In 2013 the Toronto Humane Society took in over 4000 sick, injured, or abandoned animals in need of a second chance at life.
 Committed to the no-kill philosophy – which means finding every adoptable animal a new home – the THS assists animal welfare organizations in neighboring communities that may not have the resources required to provide their animals with appropriate care.
 Over 1000 of the animals that crossed the THS’ doorstep in 2013 were transferred in from other organizations.
  In addition to providing shelter to and finding new homes for thousands of animals each year, the THS offers a number of services to the community at large that promote the humane care of pets and ensure that less animals enter the shelter system each year. 
  The THS Spay/Neuter and Vaccination Services provide a low-cost surgical and preventative health option for clients with limited　 means. 
 THS operates two pet food banks in the city of Toronto and has partnered with the only winter warming shelter in Toronto that allows animals on the premises.   The Toronto Humane Society also offers canine behavior classes and behavior counseling for those  individuals who have encountered issues with a pet at home.
The Toronto Humane society accepts dogs from other provinces, the USA and also from other countries. Their mission and impact reaches far beyond the border of its namesake city.
I am very proud to be part of this team!
